Work under supervision of a certified teacher. Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid Texas educational aide certificate Must successfully pass MISD paraprofessional test 48 College Hours/Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred Special Knowledge/Skills Ability to work well with children Ability to communicate effectively Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word documents Experience Preferred experience working with children, in a public education environment. Essential Job Functions Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. Assist with administration of objective testing instruments or work assignments. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual scholars or small groups. Help supervise scholars throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom (lunchroom, bus, playground duty). Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual scholars. May perform duties at either elementary or secondary campus. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned. Maintain confidentiality. Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
