Engineering ManagerThe Engineering Manager is an experienced leader within the Engineering field that manages, plans, directs, evaluates and improves operations for a variety of commercial building projects and clients. This role is responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications, managing complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, managing a design team, and contributing to the overall business.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesAct as Engineer of Record for design projectsServe as a recognized technical expert in engineering disciplineServe as technical liaison on matters pertaining to designCommunicate with and manage clientsServe as the people manager for the design teamDevelop training schedule for design teamProvide consultation to management, designers and clientsProvide routine project and performance feedback to design teamProvide technical leadership in design reviews, modifications and recommends modificationsEnhance technical excellence in design teamIdentify and recommend where improvements in knowledge of the discipline are needed or where technical training is neededEstablish a total quality management strategy to assure early involvement on design processesProvide leadership to help focus and integrate new technology smoothly into designSuggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches to address top problems within the organization or projects in focused technical areaLead the quality control process on assigned projectsCoach and mentor team membersIdentify and mitigate potential risks/issues throughout project life cycleCoordinate with internal engineering disciplines as needed including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection to ensure the project designs are effectively integrated for each projectPerform initial site investigations and observations of work done by the installing contractor(s) related to contracted projectsDevelop and maintain positive client relationshipsAttend construction site observations and construction administrationMaintain project details and progress in CRMProject management and design duties as needed or requiredCompetenciesExcellent verbal and written communicationStrong proven interpersonal and leadership skillsCommitment to excellenceJob ownershipRelationship managementCritical evaluation and thinkingCustomer serviceConflict resolutionNegotiating with othersActive listeningJudgement and decision-makingTime managementBusiness acumenEthical practiceKnowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of:Practical application of engineering science and technology including principles, techniques, procedures and equipmentDesign techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and modelsComplex mathematical methodsSkilled in:Using the right engineering methods or formulas to solve problemsIdentifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutionsUsing logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problemsMonitoring/assessing performance of team members to make improvements or take corrective actionDetermining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomesAbility to:Imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearrangedThink creativelyInterface effectively with all levels of the organizationEmpower and inspire team membersApply advanced techniques, modifications, and theories to a variety of complex situationsActively learn to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-makingBe a visionary for future success of teamWork with minimal supervisionRequired QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) license and designationBachelor's degree in Engineering discipline7+ years of relevant commercial building MEP systems design experienceComprehensive knowledge of building codes and ability to perform accurate load calculationsComprehensive knowledge of sustainable design practicesProficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)Proficient in the use of Revit and engineering modeling toolsPreferred QualificationsPrevious project manager or senior designer experienceCertifications in Energy Management and CxA10+ years of experience in engineering design in the MEP fieldAdvanced proficiency in the use of Revit and engineering modeling toolsPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is mainly required to work indoors in an office setting.
