Shift Information: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, with obligations for weekend, weeknight, and holiday on-call duties.

The Surgical Technologist plays a crucial role in providing support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring the availability and proper setup of surgical instruments and supplies in the operating room, assisting the surgeon as permitted by professional and legal standards, and maintaining cleanliness in the operating room post-procedure, including the appropriate handling of equipment and materials. This position reports to the Manager.

Since its establishment in 2017, our Bone & Joint Institute has created a unique network of coordinated services for individuals with musculoskeletal disorders and orthopedic injuries. As the first standalone Orthopedic Hospital, our mission is to be recognized as the regional leader in patient-centered, innovative musculoskeletal care, delivering state-of-the-art treatment to patients in Connecticut and neighboring states. • Completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).
• Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) is required, or the ability to obtain it within one year of employment.
• Current CPR and BLS certification, along with participation in annual Validation Day, is mandatory.
• Familiarity with various surgical procedures, with the ability to anticipate the surgeon's needs and recognize potential challenges.
• Knowledge of the names and functions of surgical instruments and equipment is essential.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
• Strict compliance with policies and regulations regarding the maintenance of a sterile environment is necessary.
• Understanding and application of basic patient care and safety principles.
• Ability to apply aseptic principles to ensure optimal patient care.
• Awareness of emergency situations that may arise in the operating room.
