Regional Medical Scientific Director (Medical Science Liaison) - Ophthalmology (Great Lakes)

Job Summary The Regional Medical Scientific Director (RMSD) is a credentialed therapeutic and disease expert who exchanges scientific information with Scientific Leaders (SLs). The role supports scientific exchange, research, congress support, and insights for the company’s therapeutic areas. Responsibilities and Primary Activities Scientific Exchange Develop professional relationships with national and regional SLs to provide access to company‑approved medical and scientific information. Conduct peer‑to‑peer scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence for SLs. Address scientific questions and direct SL inquiries outside the RMSD scope to appropriate resources. Maintain current knowledge of the dynamic scientific and clinical environment in the assigned therapeutic area. Research Initiate discussions with SLs/seek investigators to align research strategies, study concepts, and scientific merit. Enhance understanding of investigator‑sponsored research goals and foundations. Identify barriers to patient enrollment and retention to meet study milestones. Recommend study sites and potential investigators for phase II‑IV clinical programs, conduct Site Initiation Visits (SIVs), and address investigator questions. Collaborate on protocol development and serve as protocol lead as needed. Scientific Congress Support Engage in scientific congresses and medical meetings, facilitating data exchange for the company and competitors. Scientific Insights Gather feedback, data, or insights during routine activities to better understand medical or scientific needs and priorities of SLs and/or patients. Required Qualifications, Skills, & Experience Minimum Requirements Doctoral degree: PhD, PharmD, OD, DO, or MD. Minimum 2 years of eye‑care experience beyond the terminal degree program. Proficiency in conducting doctoral‑level discussions with key external stakeholders. Dedication to scientific excellence and education. Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills. Comprehensive knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations. Strong organizational and prioritization skills in a dynamic environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote) and virtual meeting platforms. Consistent adherence to field and corporate policies, SOPs, GCP guidelines, and operational responsibilities. Preferred Retina field‑based medical experience.
