Staff Software Engineer - Vision - New Platforms

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead vision system architecture for a new surgical robotic platform. The role involves defining and integrating real-time video processing, imaging, and illumination systems across complex embedded architectures, with emphasis on end-to-end debugging and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware, software, and algorithms architecture definition for real-time video processing and illumination systems
• Drive integration of cameras, image sensors, and vision pipelines into multi-processor embedded architectures
• Evaluate design trade-offs through technical deep dives, proof-of-concept development, and rapid iteration
• Diagnose and resolve vision system issues across sensor, optics, pipeline, and software components
• Mentor and guide engineers across the vision team; develop simulation and diagnostic tools

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field; advanced degree can reduce required experience
• 12+ years embedded systems development with significant video, imaging, or vision focus
• Expert-level C/C++ for embedded Linux systems, multi-core architectures, and driver development
• Deep experience integrating cameras, image sensors, and vision pipelines into complex embedded systems
• Demonstrated ability to debug complex vision systems end-to-end through root cause investigation
• Working knowledge of image processing concepts, camera pipelines, and video processing frameworks
• Proficiency in Python or similar scripting language for diagnostics and automation
