Assistant Professor of Dance - Visual and Performing Arts

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Hampton University houses programs in Dance, Theatre, and Art and seeks a dynamic faculty member to join our team beginning Fall 2026. Duties and Responsibilities Teach undergraduate courses in Dance, including foundational ballet, modern, and contemporary technique, choreography, dance theory, dance history, and performance practices. Contribute to the scholarly and artistic advancement of the department, school, and university through an active program of creative practice, research, and professional activity. Seek external support through grants and collaborations; participate in service activities to the department and university, including committee work. Advise students and maintain regular office hours to support student success. Contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and student mentorship. Additional duties as assigned by the department chair. Qualifications Terminal degree in Dance or a closely related field; or significant professional and scholarly credentials appropriate to the rank being considered (MFA or Ph.D. or equivalent strongly preferred). Evidence of effective teaching at the college/university level and demonstrated commitment to student learning and success. A professional record or demonstrated potential in creative/dance practice, scholarly work, and/or performance. Ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic environment and to collaborate with colleagues across departments and disciplines. Preference will be given to candidates with: A strong teaching portfolio in dance technique, repertory, and choreography. Experience with grant writing, grant management, or external funding. Experience in community engagement, outreach, or interdisciplinary collaborations. We will consider hiring at the Assistant Professor level; higher ranks may be considered based on qualifications and experience.
