Experience: Minimum of two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting with a frail or elderly population.

License: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Certifications: One of the following is required if the worker completed a non-accredited Medical Assistant Program:

• Registered Medical Assistant Certification through AMT.
• Registered Medical Assistant through a recognized Medical Assistant certifying organization.
• Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA.
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through the National Healthcareer Association.
• National Certified Medical Assistant through NCCT.
• Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant through a recognized organization.
• California Certified Medical Assistant through a recognized certifying board.
• BLS.

Must-Have:

• Excellent clinical, organizational, and communication skills in settings with seniors, their families, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Ability to follow directions from supervisors and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Description: The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the medical staff in the provision of safe and efficient delivery of medical services. Under the general supervision of medical staff, the Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and clinical duties. This includes scheduling medical appointments, greeting participants, and filing medical records. The Medical Assistant will take and record vital signs, prepare exam rooms, and maintain equipment and supplies. The Medical Assistant works collaboratively with all members of the team to promote the mission. In this role, the Medical Assistant will assist medical staff to address participant needs in the clinic. They will prepare participants for appointments, including setting up exam rooms and obtaining accurate history of present illness. The Medical Assistant will perform required pre-exam physical tests, as ordered by a physician, and assist during examinations. General medical procedures such as dressing changes and suture removal will be performed under supervision, as long as training requirements are met according to state law. Laboratory specimens will be collected and prepared as ordered, along with routine sterilization procedures of medical equipment. The Medical Assistant will triage and address unscheduled requests for physician visits within the clinic. Maintaining clinic logs and ensuring exam rooms are properly stocked, sanitized, and prepared for encounters is essential. Daily logs for the Emergency Cart will be maintained, and medication/vaccine refrigerator logs will be monitored. Quality control checks on clinic lab equipment must be conducted and logged. The Medical Assistant will perform and document ordered procedures and provide teaching to participants, as directed. They may also perform COVID testing as needed.
