Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care RN experience required License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Experience with titratable gtts: Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, Levophed - Chest tube management, traches, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, CSF (lumbar) drains (preferred) - Must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival Description: The position requires working with patients who have had a CVA/TIA in need of TPA administration and spinal surgical procedures. The unit provides stepdown overflow for conditions such as AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post-heart catheterization. The patient-to-nurse ratio is RN: 1:3 and CNA: 1:9. There will be support from a charge nurse who may have a patient assignment. Phlebotomy services are available in-house, and there is an IV/VAT team available from 7 AM to 3 PM. Respiratory therapy is also available in-house. A hospitalist is present in-house for additional support. Telemetry monitoring is conducted with cardiac monitors in each patient room that connect to the nurse's station. Nurses are responsible for the main monitoring and for printing EKG strips for each patient per shift. The EMR system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps utilized are Alaris, and medication dispensing is done through Pyxis. Floating to stepdown and med-surg units is expected, with ratios of 1:5-6. Weekend rotation is mandatory, working every other weekend. A 5/2 work schedule is required, where groups alternate shifts every week. Travelers may request time off up to 7 days, but requests for more than 7 days will be declined. Only one weekend of requested time off is allowed per 13-week contract. There is an expectation to work 2 out of 3 holidays during the contract period. The scrub color is pewter, and attire must adhere to designated colors. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. The environment is traveler-friendly.
