Eligible for up to $20,000 Sign On Bonus SUMMARY Under general supervision of the CT Manager, Lead CT Technologists, and the Imaging Coordinator according to established procedures, operates a CT scanner and related equipment to produce radiographs of any designated anatomical area. Collects and completes records on patient data and equipment operation. Provides assistance to patients and Radiologists. Solves minor equipment problems. Performs calibration tests and other quality control functions on equipment and notifies service personnel as required. All essential functions reflect age‑specific needs of geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients. Core Success Factors Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES Operate CT scanner by performing calibration checks, energizing gantry, image processor, and x‑ray power supply in proper sequences, positioning patient and equipment, selecting slice width and thickness, scan speed, number of scans, and table increment, and using computer commands in the correct sequence. Collect and complete computerized and manual records on patient data such as history number, image number, and type of examination; assign and verify appropriate charge codes. Screens patients for diet preparation, drug and food sensitivity, and pregnancy by questioning and, whenever possible, reviewing medical referrals and records to avoid adverse reactions. Prepare supplies for injection of contrast medium and operate pressure injector. Monitor patients and equipment during scan process for changes in condition. Perform specialized non‑routine computer functions such as 2D, 3D, MIP, and VRE to assist in diagnosis. Analyze equipment problems and malfunctions, make minor repairs, and obtain direction from services engineer for adjustments; arrange maintenance as required. Maintain records of calibration results, quality control, service reports, equipment notices, incident reports, utilization statistics, and performance standards. Provide in‑service education for students and staff technologists and maintain proper records. May perform the function of a staff Radiologic Technologist as required. Maintain CT Scan department workflow and staff efficiency for maximum throughput. Remain proficient in special procedures including biopsy, drainage, and ablations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Basic knowledge of CT scan technology, including registration with ARRT, CPR certification (AHA), BLS for Healthcare Providers, RI radiation license, CT supplemental license from the DOH, and two years formal training with registration through ARRT. Current valid license from Rhode Island Department of Health. In‑depth knowledge of technical aspects of diagnostic radiologic procedures and operation of computer consoles. Proficiency in communicating with patients, families, staff, physicians, and others, with consideration for aging, developmental, and cultural factors. For consideration of a CT Scan Technologist II position: two letters of recommendation within the last three months; two additional criteria such as teaching role, program development, published articles, committee service, or protocol development. EXPERIENCE Six months as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital radiology department plus six months specialized CT scanner training. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Generally in the CT Scan area or satellite areas with minimal noise, dust, or temperature discomfort. Exposed to radiation, but little risk with safety procedures. Requires long periods of standing, walking, pushing portable equipment, lifting, and positioning patients. INDEPENDENT ACTION Execute administrative tasks delegated by Lead CT Technologists, CT Manager, or Imaging Coordinator. Perform independently within departmental policies and seek supervisor clarification for complex problems. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None.
