Program AssistantThe purpose of the Program Assistant is to assist teachers/school programs in providing instructional support and direct services to TK- 8th-grade students in one or more academic areas.Knowledge of:Common methods, materials and equipment used in this position.Appropriate English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and arithmetic concepts.Operational procedures and policies, rules, regulations, and legal provision pertaining to this position.Ability to:Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memosMake simple arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.Communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.Understand and carry out oral and written directions.Hear and speak to exchange and retrieve information in person and on the telephone.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.Apply policies and procedures related to the assigned duties and responsibilities of the position.Maintain strict confidentiality.Ability to work independently with little directionDuties and responsibilities include:Provide remedial instruction to students under the direct supervision of the teacher.Work with small groups of children or individuals as needed.Assess student needs and progress; administer and score a variety of tests according to established guidelines.Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required by Site Assistant Principal/Program Coordinator.Assist in the preparation and organization of instructional materials; follow prescribed learning activities according to teacher lesson plans; work collaboratively with teacher to plan weekly instruction.Maintain classroom/work space in a safe, sanitary and orderly condition.Independently perform a wide variety of work as necessary for program/department needs.Assist students, Certificated Staff, and/or parents with communication problems resulting from limited knowledge of English.Communicate with the teacher the student's progress towards the instructional goals.Perform assigned duties as required by the site administration.Assist with the preparation of materials as needed for target groups.Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards.Works under the direct supervision of the site administration.Works with students in various educational settings and formats, which may include: one-on-one, small group, whole group, in the classroom, on field trips, and during unstructured time as directed by the teacher.Actively monitor and supervise students in various educational settings (e.g. Recess, assemblies, school activities, dismissal, classroom, etc.).Perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the Superintendent or designee, in order to accomplish the goals and objectives of the district.Working conditions include:Office environment; subject to constant interruptions; driving to off-site locations to conduct work; supervision responsibilities including day and evening outdoor activities.Physical requirements include:Conduct verbal conversation in English or other designated language.Hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels.)Sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and walk.Sit for sustained periods of time.Kneel or squat for extended periods of time.Climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps, and ladders.Lift and carry up to twenty (20) pounds frequently, and fifty (50) pounds occasionally.Push and pull objects weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
