Technical Program Manager-Maritime

Idaho National Laboratory’s National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) is seeking a Technical Program Manager – Maritime to lead high-impact programs that accelerate the demonstration and deployment of advanced nuclear energy systems for maritime applications. In this role, you will unite national laboratories, federal agencies, industry partners, and multidisciplinary technical teams to move innovative reactor concepts from planning and design through testing and demonstration.

You will oversee a portfolio of complex, rapidly evolving projects that may be managed by subordinate project managers. You will establish program priorities, monitor deliverables, coordinate operational planning and scheduling, and manage changes to achieve successful outcomes. You will also direct or support engineering projects involving new and upgraded facilities, develop research and engineering teams that help partners achieve their goals, and coordinate activities across laboratory organizations and facilities.

As a principal interface with partners—including the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Department of War (DOW), and maritime industry—you will maintain strong customer relationships, communicate program status and risks, ensure compliance with laboratory requirements and standards, identify opportunities for program growth, and build teams capable of delivering transformative nuclear technologies safely, efficiently, and successfully.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Support the success of advanced reactor demonstration projects by coordinating work across national laboratories and by leading teams to design the purpose-built experimental infrastructure needed by U.S. reactor developers and work directly alongside industry partners as they demonstrate innovations in nuclear reactor design and deployment.
• Work closely with other organizations, facilities, operations and business professionals to lead programmatic activities and ensure cost effective execution and completion.
• Minimize the time required to build and operate novel reactor concepts.
• Coordinate experimental campaigns using existing DOE facilities, developing new facilities and/or capabilities to allow testing and demonstration, ensuring the availability and production of fuel for reactor demonstrations, and preparing sites for operational demonstration reactors.
  
  
  
  

Required:

• Level 4: Bachelor’s degree and 9 years, or Master's degree and 6 years, or PhD and 4 years relevant experience in Nuclear, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or other related degree.
• Level 5: Bachelor’s degree and 14 years, or Master's degree and 8 years, or PhD and 6 years relevant experience in Nuclear, Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, or other related degree.
• 5 years of experience in technical program management.
• Experience in systems engineering or engineering design of pilot plants and experimental facilities.
• Knowledge of model-based systems and digital engineering into plant design.
• Knowledge of procedures addressing requirements management, configuration management, risk management, systems analysis, verification and validation.
• This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
  
  
  
  

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Experience in the maritime industry or supporting related programs.
• Experience leading projects in an environment with chemical, radiological, or other industrial hazards.
• Experience as a technical lead or system architect in nuclear or process technology development.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance. Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Technical Program Manager - Maritime to work on our Demonstration Infrastructure & Support team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC facility with every other Friday off .

• The pay range for this position is Level 4 ($114,360 - $234,336) / Level 5 ($137,076 - $281,196) . At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
• Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
