AI Director (New York)

SO Digital has undertaken a confidential search working with a leading capital markets firm looking for a Technical Leader to Head AI across their fixed income and investment banking businesses.

The role:

you’ll be the senior technical authority for AI/data science across fixed income and IB — pricing, risk, credit, rates, and origination. This is 85‑90% hands‑on: building models for illiquid instrument valuation, price/spread forecasting, prepayment and default risk, and yield curve dynamics. you’ll also be client‑facing — architecting solutions pre‑sale with traders, bankers, and risk leaders, not just supporting post‑sales deployment.

What we’re looking for:

• 10+ years in data science/ML applied to fixed income, capital markets, or quantitative finance — true modeling experience (risk, pricing, rates), not payments or card‑fraud background
• Quantitative/financial engineering pedigree — formal degree not required, but the discipline should be evident in the work
• Deep hands‑on technical skill: Python (or R), cloud platforms, modern ML frameworks, causal inference, deep learning, time series
• Outstanding communication skills — non‑negotiable. you’ll be trusted to run highly technical conversations directly in front of clients. Strong technical candidates have been passed over here specifically for weak client‑facing communication
• Experience shipping production ML at enterprise scale — pure research or R&D‑only backgrounds (without production deployment) is not what we are looking for here
• Palantir Foundry/AIP experience a plus; familiarity with vector databases, knowledge graphs, and LLM frameworks a plus
• Experience mentoring or leading a small technical team
