The IRSC Student Leader student position engages in community building, education, and culturally based program support for the Indigenous and Rural Student Center (IRSC). This position will work closely in collaboration with other teams within Student Engagement and Community & Belonging particularly IRSC students (Beyond 1st year) and Student Organization Services to engage and support Indigenous and rural students. This position will also assist with overall marketing, outreach, and communications to support and promote the IRSC and its programs. This student staff position is about 15 hrs/week during the academic year and starts at $16.52/hour.
The Indigenous & Rural Student Center (IRSC) team is deeply committed to supporting the needs of the UAA Indigenous and rural student community. The IRSC includes a dedicated space in Rasmuson Hall 108 and a set of culturally based programs that foster community engagement specifically targeting Indigenous and rural students. IRSC celebrates the cultural richness of Alaska Native, Native American, Indigenous and rural students and works to transform societal norms to build a campus community where all students can thrive as their full authentic selves.To thrive in this role a successful applicant should have commitment to personal and community development. They should also have the willingness to learn, grow, and adapt in an evolving environment. They should have experience or interest in culturally based programming to support indigenous students and students from rural communities. Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills, knowledge of and sensitivity to historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups. Should have commitment to campus and community involvement, engagement and recruitment. Having the ability to create and manage social media content and manage and keep confidential information is critical.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must:
a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or
b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and
c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.
d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer.
e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.
Position Details:
This is a Student Assistant 2 position for approximately 15 hours/week with the hourly rate of $16.52.
This position is open to undergraduate students only.
