Medical Assistant
$18 - $22 per hourAxelon
Pay Rate: $18 per hour - $22 per hour Summary:
- Shift Timings: M-F varies (8a-7p)
- Perform venipuncture and/or EKGs, check schedules, and organize patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing.
- Collect and process specimens, conduct point of care testing, and prepare for exams.
- Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
- Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, and manage charts.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests.
- Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as applicable.
- Set up examination rooms and instruments following proper sterilization techniques.
- Maintain logging systems for refrigeration, point of care testing, sterilization, and more.
- Dispose of expired medications and medical supplies appropriately.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
- Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to hazardous substances.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical charts.
- Schedule surgeries/procedures as needed.
- Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
- Schedule and register patient appointments, update patient demographic and insurance information.
- Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
- Verify and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
- Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
- BLS certification - Required Issuing Authority: AHA.
- Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
- Knowledge of electronic medical record or billing systems preferred, but not required.
- Ability to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
