Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Experience Student externs gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience in a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics, including dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage patient medical care Communicate with the medical team, support staff, and clients Schedule & Eligibility Externships last from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. At Metairie Small Animal Hospital, the program is designed for third‑ and fourth‑year veterinary students. Travel & Living Stipend Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel and living expense stipend.
