Minister of Youth Job Description General Information The Minister of Youth position on the church staff is predicated on a call for unspecified duration. The position of Minister of Youth will be predicated upon two truths. First, youth have very special needs, face many temptations, and need spiritual equipment thus requiring the attention of a minister who can give considerable time to them. Secondly, the Minister of Youth will have experienced a very definite call of God to serve as a full‑time minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ and will manifest special gifts in relation to young people. Historically this person will have completed appropriate college and seminary preparation. The title, Minister of Youth, is in no way designed to be exclusive in character. The Minister of Youth will be considered a minister of the gospel in the fullest sense of that word. Though his primary duties will lay in the realm of the church youth program, he shall also have responsibilities in terms of church administration, evangelism, outreach, and may, on occasion, perform some duties usually considered pastoral in nature. Privileges The minister will be permitted to assist in two engagements away from our local church field and additional such meetings in the local area when these do not conflict with his regular duties. The minister will be permitted to attend the Georgia Baptist Convention, Southern Baptist Convention, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Convention, or other professional meetings at the expense of the church and within the limitations imposed by the availability of funds for these purposes. Administrative & Scheduling Flexibility The church realizes that the work of any minister is demanding with respect to “being on call” and the total hours involved. The church also realizes the need for adequate time off for rest, outside normal church office hours. The Minister of Youth will be available to parents of youth that feel a need to discuss youth‑related issues. Minimum reasonable flexibility is granted for scheduling adjustments and taking days off. The minister is expected to maintain communication with the church office regarding his schedule. Relationship to the Church The Minister of Youth will be related to the church through the deacons, staff committee, and youth committee. He will attend deacon’s meetings in order to keep this body informed about his work and keep abreast of the wider scope of the church’s work. Joint participation with the staff committee and the youth activities committee is expected. The Minister of Youth is a member of the Church Council. Staff Relationships The Minister of Youth will be on parity with the other ministers (Minister of Education and Minister of Music). He cooperates with these ministers and all members of the staff to serve as a team. He complies with the statement of administrative procedures prepared for the church staff. Areas of Responsibility Overall responsibility: The Minister of Youth is responsible to the church through the deacons and youth committee for overall development and promotion of the youth program. He exercises initiative in the promotion of the entire church program and keeps the Pastor fully informed of planning and progress. He maintains professionalism and works collaboratively to smoothly transition upon departure. Specific Areas of Responsibility Available for counseling at reasonable times. Initiates collaboration with leadership of the youth departments of Sunday School and Church Training for planning and promoting educational programs. Cooperates with local school calendars. Seeks to engage young people in the Savior’s work through home visits and other contacts. Plans year‑round activities such as Bible studies, Sunday evening fellowship, youth center opening, recreational and social events. Coordinates summer‑time special activities: Bible studies, youth revivals, youth retreats, spiritual seminars, camps for children and youth, VBS, mission projects, and other recreational events. Serves as staff coordinator for the Youth Council and is an ex‑officio member of the youth activities committee. Travels with the Minister of Music to assume responsibility for the youth portion of creative ministry teams or projects. Assists with youth budgeting as part of the unified budget. Engages in outreach and visitation, including discovering newcomers and sharing visiting prospects with church ministers. Collaborates with athletic teams representing the church. Encourages youth participation in other areas of church life, especially music ministry.
