Your Job:

The mission of the Run Research Team is to create and leverage novel, scientific concepts and runner-driven product performance insights to create amazing products to help everyone run their path.

As a Run Research Physiologist II, you will be an integral part of the Run Research Team helping to create the future of the run. In this role, you will use your advanced knowledge of exercise physiology and scientific methods to investigate key performance indicators to maximize runner performance and recovery and reduce injury risk. You will work cross functionally, collaborating with Run Performance Researchers, Run Behavior Researchers, and Run Research Data Scientists to transform runner insights to innovative products.

\n Your Responsibilities:
  • Design exercise physiology research studies that generate new insights that may drive new technologies to improve runner performance and reduce injury incidence.
•Independently lead research studies including collecting, recording, and analyzing exercise physiology data, in an unbiased, objective manner.
•Connect thoughtfully with runners and the run to identify unexplored opportunities.
•Identify functional groups of runners based on physiological insights that inform running performance and injury prevention.
•Apply scientific expertise and critical thinking to solve complex research questions, adapt and combine existing concepts in new ways, and identify opportunities to improve runner performance and recovery.
•Develop and apply analysis and visualization approaches that support interpretation of physiological data and research findings.
•Collaborate cross functionally with the Run Research Team including behavior researchers, performance researchers, and data scientists to translate physiological findings to inform product decisions.
•Create insightful and interpretable presentation of physiological findings that inform product direction. Tailor messaging for cross functional teams with non-technical backgrounds so they are able to build on ideas and provide feedback.
•Apply and evolve research methodologies to capture emerging aspects of running behavior – such as running environment and emotional engagement – ensuring a future-forward understanding of the run.
•Effectively translate research project findings and project status updates to product creation teams (Development, Product Line Management, Design). Provide articulate, persuasive, and actionable conclusions with recommendations for next steps and how projects will drive a positive business impact.
•Identify opportunities for future research and provide recommendations to research leadership regarding potential project areas.
•Ability to understand how the project aligns within the organizational goals and priorities.
•Share physiological expertise and research findings with team members and cross-functional partners. Present to technical and non-technical groups, clearly communicating data-driven insights.
•May manage up to 1 direct report.
    •Other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. with a background in Exercise Physiology and/or Exercise Science or an equivalent analytical field and 1+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training (e.g., Masters and 3+ years or Bachelors and 6+ years)
•Knowledge of athletic performance and injury prevention preferred.
•Understanding of running shoe design features and components and how they influence product experience.
•Proficient Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills.
•Expert understanding of anatomy, physiology, applied physiology, and experimental design and statistical methods with an understanding of running performance.
•Understanding of running shoe design features and components and how they influence physiology and human performance.
•Experience identifying new features in wearable data that can be translated into research insights.
•Advanced experience working with human subject data collection (stationary metabolic carts / portable metabolic systems, environmental chambers, spirometry systems, biomarkers, muscle oxygenation, phlebotomy, thermography, environmental chambers, etc.) required.
•Advanced experience working with study design, including collecting and analyzing in an unbiased objective manner.
•Experience in presenting scientific principles to technical and non-technical groups.
•Keen attention to detail. Organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, organize and execute tasks with short timelines.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an advanced ability to communicate points of views concisely and functional expertise within project teams.
•Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders with varying skills and perspectives.
•Curious and open minded – always up for a challenge and always looking to improve our products and processes.
•Comfort with uncertainty and absorbing new knowledge fast
•Demonstrated ability to try things quickly rather than waiting for a “perfect” plan.
•Demonstrates an optimistic winning attitude that drives problem solving.
•Demonstrates a growth mindset, seeking and providing feedback regularly.
•Demonstrates ability to operate independently with defined goals.
•Demonstrated ability to develop highly productive relationships with individuals and teams that are made up of diverse disciplines and cultural backgrounds resulting in effective working relationships across the company.
•Be self-driven and show the ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete data. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment, anticipating and resolving problems in a timely manner.
•A positive attitude that embraces and lives the Brooks values!
