A car dealership service advisor acts as the primary contact for customers visiting the service department and is the liaison between the customer and the service technicians. The role requires a strong blend of customer service, automotive knowledge, and sales skills. Summary of the position

Key duties and responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly upon their arrival and discuss their vehicle's issues to determine the type of service required.
• Perform a visual inspection and sometimes a road test to verify customer-reported problems.
• Clearly translate the customer's description of the problem into precise, actionable work orders for the technicians.
• Service planning and communication:
• Consult with mechanics and technicians to determine necessary repairs and identify potential alternatives, including less-expensive options.
• Prepare accurate cost and time estimates, explaining the details to the customer.
• Provide information on manufacturer warranty protections and potential cost-saving options.
• Obtain customer approval for all repair work before it is performed.
• Workflow management:
• Schedule service appointments and manage the shop's workflow and technicians' schedules.
• Coordinate with the parts department to ensure the timely availability of necessary parts.
• Monitor the progress of repairs and contact customers with status updates or any changes to the original estimate.
• Sales and administrative tasks:
• Promote and sell dealership products and services, such as maintenance packages and accessories.
• Manage customer records, process paperwork, and handle billing and payments.
• Maintain high customer satisfaction standards by professionally resolving any complaints or concerns.

Skills and qualifications

• Education and experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, but prior experience in the automotive or a similar customer service industry is often preferred. Some employers may favor candidates with vocational training or an associate's degree in automotive technology.
• Automotive knowledge: A strong understanding of automotive systems, repairs, and maintenance is crucial for communicating with both technicians and customers.
• Communication and interpersonal skills:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain technical information to customers.
