Trauma Surgeon Opportunity

BayCare Medical Group (BMG), the region's largest physician-led, multispecialty group across Tampa Bay, is seeking two Trauma Surgeons to join the expanding Acute Care Surgery division at St. Joseph's Hospital Main, one of the busiest and most advanced hospitals in the region. This is an exceptional opportunity to practice high-acuity trauma care within a collaborative, academically enriched environment backed by robust system resources.

High-Acuity, High-Volume Trauma Practice

• Join a Level II Trauma Center nested within the busiest Emergency and Trauma Department in Tampa Bay, offering consistent exposure to high-complexity, penetrating and blunt trauma cases.
• St. Joseph's Hospital is a 615-bed tertiary referral center with approximately 70,000 ER visits annually, providing steady trauma volumes and diverse pathology.

Collaborative, Multidisciplinary Team-Based Care

• Work alongside a well-established team of experienced trauma and acute care surgeons, supported by skilled Advanced Practice Providers who help optimize workflow, continuity of care, and patient experience.
• Enjoy close collaboration with critical care, neurosurgery, orthopedics, vascular surgery, and other key service lines integral to trauma performance.

Significant Presence in the Surgical ICU

• Expanded responsibilities within the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), with opportunities to shape critical care management protocols and participate in quality initiatives across trauma and critical care programs.

Academic Involvement & Teaching Opportunities

• Serve as core faculty within a robust surgical residency program, with trauma surgeons playing an active role in resident education, clinical teaching, procedure supervision, curriculum development, and bedside mentoring.
• Candidates with prior academic or teaching experienceor strong interest in educationwill thrive in this setting.

Qualifications

• Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery with fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care.
• Preferably experienced and comfortable in high-acuity trauma care
• Strong interest in teaching residents and engaging in academic activity
• Team-oriented, collaborative, and committed to high-quality patient care
