Job Description

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides healthcare services by applying radionuclides to assist in diagnosis or treatment. This role involves performing nuclear medicine procedures and related techniques to produce images interpreted by licensed practitioners. The technologist exercises professional judgment during services and maintains a demeanor consistent with medical ethics. Patient care is prioritized, and conditions essential for successful procedures are recognized and managed.

Essential Job Functions:

• Perform diagnostic Nuclear Medicine procedures, ensuring the patient's clinical history is documented and available.
• Prepare patients for procedures by providing instructions to minimize anxiety and gain cooperation.
• Select and operate radiation detection and imaging equipment effectively.
• Position patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting patient comfort.
• Immobilize patients as needed for appropriate examinations.
• Prepare, calculate, identify, and administer radiopharmaceuticals and medications as prescribed.
• Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is documented.
• Verify informed consent for interventional procedures and assist licensed practitioners as necessary.
• Practice aseptic techniques as required.
• Assume responsibility for the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.
• Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
• Maintain knowledge and observe universal precautions.
• Perform venipuncture.
• Assist in maintaining records, ensuring confidentiality, and adhering to established policies.
• Report equipment malfunctions and assume responsibility for the assigned area.
• Provide input for equipment purchases and supply decisions.
• Provide practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals.
• Participate in department quality assessment and improvement plans, including specific duties for quality control.
• Manage inventory and supply purchases for the assigned area.
• Apply patient relations skills effectively.
• Pursue appropriate continuing education to maintain licensure or certification.
• Accomplish other duties as assigned.
• Support the organization's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in required educational programs as applicable to the position.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  
  
  • Required: Associate or Bachelor's degree from a nuclear medicine accredited program.
  • Preferred: Not applicable.
• Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
  
  
  • Required: OBMI and ARRT registered nuclear medicine technologist, current BLS certification.
  • Preferred: CRASE training if travel assignment extends beyond a six-month period.
• Experience:
  
  
  • Required: None.
  • Preferred: Minimum of two years of experience.
