Medical Assistant / Medical Front Office

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
*Candidates must complete the All States Except Arizona Medical Assistant Candidate Employment Attestation.
Grandfathered Clinical Care Specialist Staff: Employees hired under the CCS job description prior to November 15, 2022, which do not meet one of the above criteria, are grandfathered into their current medical assistant job description. Grandfathered CCS employees must have their clinical competency verified in 2023 by a Regional Clinic Lead (RCL) or their appointed designee. The clinical competency is retained in ADP WFN. CPR Certification (applies to all states employed): Current healthcare professional level CPR certification issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety Health Institute or National Safety Council. VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Experience: Prior recent experience in an emergency department, urgent care or other clinical setting. Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; lift; carry; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Work Environment: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee comes in contact with patient in a wide variety of circumstances. The employee may be exposed to unpleasant situations including accidents, injuries, illnesses, patient elements and varying or unpredictable situations.
- Performs the essential functions as defined as by the appropriate Skills Competency
- Compliance with established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control
- Implements infection control policies throughout the course of patient care and other job
- Complies with personal protective equipment policy necessary for protection from exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious disease and other hazardous substances. Observes and communicates changes in the patient's condition to the provider on
- Assists provider with exams, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct
- Participates in the completion of the emergency equipment daily checklist, as well as any assigned duties and tasks necessary to maintain compliance with Federal and State
- Participates in education programs and attends meetings as
- Dispenses prescriptions and medications per policy
- Follows and complies with standing orders policy; recognizes when the provider on duty is necessary based on patient presentation and policy guidance
- Administers medications per policy and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
- Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident
- Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety
- Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation
- Treats patients and co-workers consistent with the NextCare Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Performance
- Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company
- Analytical Testing: Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing across authorized disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory's COLA-approved SOP manual.
- Quality Control & Calibration: Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values prior to reporting patient results.
- COLA Inspection Readiness: Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA on-site surveys.
- Competency & Training: Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year of employment, and annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
- Proficiency Testing (PT): Successfully test and document blind proficiency testing samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to strict anti-commingling regulations.
- Specimen & EMR Processing: Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Critical Value Notification: Promptly recognize critical, life-threatening results and follow immediate notification protocols to the attending Texas healthcare provider.
- The medical assistant candidate has completed an APPROVED Medical Assistant Training Program*.
- Certification is not required but is
- The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health (CAAHEP); or
- The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or
- The medical assistant candidate has completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND
- Certification* is
- National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA); or
- American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
- exam and certification is administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or
- exam and certification are approved for medical assistants that meet the American Medical Technologists (AMT) criteria; or
- exam and certification are administered by the National Healthcare Association (NHA); or
- certified by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
- exam and certification administered by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
- The medical assistant candidate is eligible for hire if they meet one of the following three (3) criteria within A., or B., or
- The medical assistant candidate was directly supervised by the SAME physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours (approximately working 40 hours/week for 12 months) prior to February 2, 2000,*; or
- The medical assistant completed a United States Armed Forces medical services training program*.
- The following Emergency Medical Services (EMS) credentials are eligible for hire in a lesser role under the Clinical Care Specialist (CCS) job
- AEMT*
- EMT-I* (Intermediate)
- EMT-P* (Paramedic)
- Paramedic*
- Will verify the EMS candidate credentials based on the recruiter reference
- If the candidate's EMS license or certification is not current, they must have worked in a position similar or greater than the MA/CCS position within the 3 previous
- Will ensure that candidates with EMS credentials accepting a position as an MA/CCS signs the NextCare Candidate Credentials Recertification and Renewal Acknowledgement regarding potential LPN license renewal
- LPNs are eligible for hire into the lesser role under Clinical Care Specialist (CCS) job description in the state of Arizona. The licensed LPN may only perform medical assistant duties when they are hired under the MA/CCS job description.*
- Will verify the LPNs completion of LPN education and
- If the candidate's LPN license is not current, they must have worked in a position similar or greater than the MA/CCS position within the 3 previous
- Will ensure that an LPN accepting a position as an MA/CCS signs the NextCare Candidate Credentials Recertification and Renewal Acknowledgement regarding potential LPN license renewal
- The medical assistant candidate has completed an APPROVED Medical Assistant Training Program*.
- Certification is not required but is
- The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health (CAAHEP); or
- The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or
- The U.S. Department of Education (DAPIP)
- The medical assistant candidate has completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND
- Certification* is

- exam and certification is administered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or

- Employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion;

- The medical assistant candidate was directly supervised by a maximum of three physician(s), physician group(s), physician assistant(s), or nurse practitioner(s) for a minimum of 2000 hours total (approximately working 40 hours/week for 12 months)*.
- The medical assistant completed a United States Armed Forces medical services training program*.
- The following EMS Credentials may work in a lesser role as an MA/CCS.
- Advanced EMT (AEMT )*
- EMT Intermediate (EMT-I)*
- EMT Paramedic *
- Paramedic (Medic)*
- Will verify the EMS candidate credentials based on the state reference
- If the candidate's EMS license or certification is not current, they must have worked in a position similar or greater than the MA/CCS position within the 3 previous
- Will ensure that candidates with EMS credentials accepting a position as an MA/CCS signs the NextCare Candidate Credentials Recertification and Renewal Acknowledgement regarding potential LPN license renewal
- LPNs are eligible for hire into the less role under the MA/CCS job description in the following
- Will verify the LPNs completion of LPN education and
- If the candidate's LPN license is not current, they must have worked in a position similar to or greater than the MA/CCS position within the 3 previous
- Will ensure that an LPN accepting a position as an MA/CCS signs the NextCare Candidate Credentials Recertification and Renewal Acknowledgement regarding potential LPN license renewal
- Will verify the LPNs completion of education and
- Will verify current LPN/LVN licensure for the state of
- Will ensure that an LPN/LVN accepting a position as an MA/CCS signs the NextCare Candidate Credentials Recertification and Renewal Acknowledgement regarding potential LPN license renewal
- Medication training (injectable and non-injectable medications) and injection competency for Nebraska medical assistants are verified post- hire by RCL or their designee under the direction of the Director of Workforce Management*.
- Clinic Managers will verify the medication aide's registry is renewed
