Job Title: Medical Lab Technician Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Medical Lab Technician Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum 5 years License: Required Certifications: ASCP, BLS Must-Have: - Generalist certification - Client clinical laboratory experience - Ability to float within assigned areas Description: The position requires a Medical Lab Technician for day shifts, working 8 hours a day for five days a week. Candidates must be generalists and hold ASCP certification or equivalent. Staffing ratios are 1:6 during the day. Weekend work is required every other week. On-call duty is not required. The technician will float as needed for coverage. Local candidates are not accepted within a 75-mile radius. No more than 7 days of requested time off is allowed. A total of 40 hours of orientation is required. The Medical Lab Technician performs specimen processing and both routine and complex testing on blood and other specimens. A knowledge and understanding of quality control, basic instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies and reference ranges are essential. All activities require appropriate documentation as specified. Good laboratory practice must be demonstrated. Test results should be reported accurately through the laboratory computer system, meeting turnaround times for routine testing and stat requests. Patient test management issues must be documented on quality documents and corrective actions initiated. The technician must operate all instrumentation in assigned areas to deliver precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Responsibilities include performing laboratory procedures for specimen collection, processing, and test analysis. Quality controls for all equipment must be performed, along with troubleshooting any malfunctioning instrumentation as necessary. Performance of quality control and monitoring processes is critical to correct any problems as they arise. The technician will train new personnel in methods, procedures, and use of assigned equipment and instruments. This position is safety-sensitive, requiring constant alertness and adherence to safety practices. The ability to lift up to 35 pounds, as well as sit, stand, bend, walk, carry, grasp, push, or pull for extended periods, is necessary. Vision requirements include the ability to read small print and see at close and long distances, along with color differentiation.
