You will mow, trim, irrigate, repair, paint, and plant across the park system and respond to storm damage when the weather turns. This is a fictional posting for the demonstration site. The crew of 22 technicians works out of the Suncrest shop in teams of three or four, each assigned a group of parks. The supervisor rotates assignments through the year so everyone learns irrigation, playground inspection, and small-engine repair, and the department pays for the playground safety inspector certification. What you will do In a typical week a technician will: Mow, edge, and trim turf on a weekly schedule; prune trees and shrubs; and plant seasonal beds along Market Street and in Heritage Park. Inspect playgrounds, benches, lighting, and fencing, and complete repairs or report hazards the same day. Program, test, and repair irrigation controllers and lines under the Stage 1 watering schedule. Set up and take down tables, stages, and barricades for city events and facility rentals. Empty trash and recycling, clean restrooms, and clear trails after wind, dust, or ice storms. Operate mowers, utility vehicles, trailers, chainsaws, and a one-ton truck safely. What you bring You are a fit for this role if you have: A high school diploma or equivalent. One year of grounds, landscaping, construction, or facilities experience; irrigation or small-engine experience is a plus. A valid driver license with a clean record. A pesticide applicator license or playground safety inspector certification can be earned on the job within a year. The ability to work outdoors in West Texas heat and cold, lift 60 pounds, and start early. Full-time employees are eligible for the same fictional benefits package on the first of the month after their start date.
