Location Sun City, CA and surrounding area (float job) Schedule 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Shifts are 8 hours. Requires pediatric and geriatric experience. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Typical responsibilities include: Performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, and updating patient information. Collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures. Explaining the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) processes clearly and courteously. Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understanding physicians' orders. Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order. Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Packaging specimens for transport. Storing specimen samples at required temperatures and placing samples in appropriate containers. Accurately labeling specimens and following protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Ensuring compliance with OSHA and Department of Environmental Protection regulations. Attending annual department training. Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
