Compensation for this role is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to experience, education, and other business and organizational considerations. Department: Interpreter Language Services FTE: 1.00 Full Time Shift: Nights Position Summary Manage all aspects of the day‑to‑day operations of the Interpreter Language Service Department. Ensure adequate staffing, personnel management (including mentoring, Kronos, and performance appraisals), complete and accurate documentation for all activities, and basic program management when needed (such as translation and dual role programs). Provide staff accountability, troubleshoot technical problems related to interpretation, and deliver excellent customer service to all consumers. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment. Detailed Responsibilities Allocate and schedule work, ensuring floor requirements are covered during operating hours; cover staff absences. Perform routine personnel and payroll functions; monitor and maintain sick and annual leave records. Perform administrative functions such as monitoring expenditures, preparing reports and correspondence; participate in research projects to develop service plans; propose changes to policies and procedures. Deliver quality service and act positively with all customers; recommend and implement continuous improvement opportunities. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual program operation reports and other special reports. Maintain records, collect statistical data for administrative and quality improvement purposes. Enhance professional growth through educational programs, current literature, in‑services, meetings, and workshops. Monitor translation requests, assign to external vendor or qualified internal staff, and ensure timely, cost‑efficient deliverables. Work with staff and management to ensure timely, high‑quality, efficient program management. Maintain strict patient confidentiality per UNM Hospitals and department policies. Ensure staff compliance with safety requirements. Develop organizational structure; supervise employees; participate in candidate selection, recommend terminations, train, coach, correct deficiencies, perform appraisals, issue discipline, counsel, and schedule work assignments; encourage teamwork and growth initiatives. Qualifications Education Essential: High School or GED Equivalent Nonessential: Bachelor's Degree Education specialization (Nonessential): Related Discipline Experience Essential: 1 year directly related experience Nonessential: 3 years interpreter/translator in a healthcare setting; 1 year supervisory experience (No preferred experience) Credentials Essential: Bridging the Gap or The Community Interpreter certification Nonessential: Certificate from a recognized medical/healthcare interpreter entity Physical Conditions Sedentary work: Exert up to 10 lbs of force occasionally or negligible force frequently; primarily sitting but may walk or stand briefly. Work is sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other criteria are met. Working Conditions No or minimal hazard, physical risk, office environment.
