Benefits and Leave Administrator At SJE , a family of brands dedicated to innovation and reliability, we are looking for a Benefits and Leave Administrator to join our corporate HR team. This role is hybrid and may be based out of Plymouth, Detroit Lakes (MN), Ashland (OH), or Birmingham (AL), or remotely. The Job As the primary administrator of employee benefits and leave programs across a multi‑state organization of 800 employees, you will manage the full lifecycle of benefit offerings—medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, COBRA, wellness initiatives, and leave of absence programs. You will also oversee workers’ compensation claims, return‑to‑work programs, open enrollment, 401(k) support, and benefit billing reconciliation. Your work will involve partnering with employees, leaders, vendors, insurance carriers, and third‑party administrators to deliver concierge‑level service while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and applicable state leave laws. Travel of 10‑15% is required. Key Responsibilities Lead day‑to‑day administration, compliance, and continuous improvement of employee benefits and leave programs. Own lifecycle administration of benefit programs and maintain accurate HRIS and vendor data. Partner with employees, leaders, vendors, and carriers to ensure a high‑quality employee experience and regulatory compliance. Manage leave of absence and ADA accommodation processes, coordinate workers’ compensation claims, and oversee return‑to‑work programs. Reconcile benefit billing, oversee open enrollment activities, support 401(k) administration, and develop employee communication and training materials. Analyze participation trends, identify process improvements, and support HR initiatives to enhance employee engagement and wellness. Desired Qualifications 7+ years progressive experience in benefits and leave administration, with deep knowledge of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, and state leave laws. Experience managing health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, leave, and workers’ compensation programs from onboarding to offboarding. Strong communication skills, ability to serve as a subject‑matter expert and primary point of contact for employee benefit questions. Proficiency with HRIS systems, preferably UKG, and third‑party benefit platforms. Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. Self‑directed, capable of prioritizing competing responsibilities and exercising sound judgment. Education & Certifications A 4‑year degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as SHRM, CEBS, or related credentials are preferred. Compensation & Benefits Base salary ranges from $65,000 to $95,000 per year, dependent on location and experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance, and a robust package of other benefits.
