A Day in the Life of a Medical Records Specialist

As a Medical Records Specialist, you help keep our office running smoothly by supporting essential billing and documentation processes. Your responsibilities include:

• Preparing and auditing billing and payment information for accounts payable and receivable
• Processing physician orders received via fax or mail for billing or clinical follow-up
• Ensuring all records remain confidential and compliant with state and federal guidelines
• Auditing MRC and MCO files for accuracy and filing
• Reviewing and organizing patient charts to ensure all information is current
• Maintaining logs of physician orders for billing coordination
• Participating in weekly case conferences as needed
• Assisting with general office duties such as answering phones and distributing mail
• Serving as a backup scheduler and entering referrals when needed

Your reliability, communication skills, and attention to detail help ensure smooth operations and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related health or financial field
• At least 2 years of experience in medical records or healthcare billing
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and email
• Strong organizational and communication skills
