RN - ICU

Registered Nurse (RN)

The Whole House Float RN will be responsible for providing care across all Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical Surgical (MS) units. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in all three specialties and have experience with patient ratios of at least 1:5.

Scheduling Details

Contract Length/Shift Details: 3 shifts of 12 hours, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM

Charting: Experience with EPIC is required

Floating: Staffing needs are evaluated every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift

Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block

Holiday Requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

First-Time Travelers Encouraged: Yes

Local Candidates Eligible: Yes, refer to submittal instructions for radius rules

Requests for Time Off (RTO), Block Scheduling, and Special Requests: All requests must be included at the time of submission

Call Off Policy: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks

Required Licenses & Certifications

Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications

Pending Licenses Accepted: Yes, only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state; otherwise, an active Virginia State or Compact RN license is required

Required Clinical Skills

Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and PICC line management

Experience with central line care/management, arterial line management, and blood product administration

Skilled in tracheostomy management and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)

Experienced in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, and administration of emergency medications

Ability to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips

Background includes at least 2 years of ICU experience from a large Level 1 or Level 2 facility

Unit Details

ICU average patient ratio: 2:1

PCU average patient ratio: 5:1

MS average patient ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
