Job Summary:
The position is for a Medical Surgical Float Registered Nurse (RN) located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The role involves providing general medical and surgical nursing care on various units, with floating to areas of greatest need within medical units. Candidates must hold a valid Indiana State RN license or a compact RN license and bring their license on their first day. This is a 12-hour shift position requiring flexibility to cover a 36-hour minimum workweek, including three weekend shifts every four weeks.

Job Details:

• Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
• Shift: 12-hour shifts, 3am-3pm
• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, minimum 36 hours per week, with 3 weekend shifts required in a 4-week period
• Required Qualifications: Indiana State RN license or compact RN license, BLS certification through the American Heart Association, ACLS certification, at least 2 years of clinical experience including at least 1.5 years in Level 1, Level 2, or tertiary settings, and at least 1 year of Medical Surgical experience at a large hospital.
• Additional Information:
  • EMR: Epic electronic record system
  • Patient ratios typically 1:5-6
  • Floating is only to other medical units
  • Equipment used includes Epic electronic record, Pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose, Hospira IV pumps, SCDs, heating/cooling pads, telemetry monitoring
  • Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs
  • Supplies and procedures include assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, IV therapy management, wound vacs, heat/cooling pads, feeding pumps, chest tubes, and management of heparin and insulin drips
  • Patient populations include diverse diagnoses such as COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, GI issues, infections, neurological issues, and mental health disorders
  • The facility accepts local travelers within 50 miles with a 12% rate reduction
  • Client cancellation allowed up to 24 hours for every 13-week assignment
  • Non-billable orientation: 8 hours, with guaranteed hours not applying during orientation
  • Charting required in Epic, no BSN required to submit, willing to wait for license submission
