Senior Data ScientistRequired Skills & Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, or similar advanced analytics role. Hands-on experience designing and implementing OCR (Optical Character Recognition) solutions using traditional OCR tools (e.g., Tesseract), cloud-based OCR platforms, and/or LLM-powered document extraction technologies. Experience with handwriting recognition, document classification, and data validation frameworks. Experience processing and extracting data from handwritten documents, poor-quality scans/faxes, and documents containing image artifacts. Strong Python and SQL development skills. Experience developing, deploying, and supporting production-grade machine learning or data science applications. Demonstrated experience independently leading projects from requirements gathering through deployment and operationalization. Strong stakeholder management, communication, and business partnering skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and tradeoffs to non-technical audiences. Experience working in ambiguous environments with minimal supervision and driving projects to completion.Nice to Have Skills & Experience: Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP); AWS or Azure experience also considered. Healthcare experience.Job Description: A client of Insight Global is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead a high-impact fax digitization initiative supporting a Prior Authorization business. This individual will evaluate current fax-driven workflows, identify opportunities to reduce fax volume through process improvements and vendor strategies, and design, develop, and deploy a production-grade OCR solution capable of extracting information from faxed documents and feeding downstream electronic workflows. Working closely with both business and technical stakeholders, this person will leverage existing work rather than build from scratch, improve OCR performance for handwritten and low-quality documents, and drive the initiative from discovery through implementation and optimization. Success in this role requires more than strong technical skills; the ideal candidate must be able to navigate ambiguity, communicate technical tradeoffs effectively, gain stakeholder buy-in, collaborate across technical and non-technical teams, demonstrate strong business judgment, and take full ownership of delivering measurable business outcomes with limited supervision.
