The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Program Management and Administration is looking for an Accounting Technician 3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

Pay is based on the location of the selected applicant; salaries will be discussed at the time of the interview. Anchorage: $31.54/hourly Fairbanks: $32.49/hourly Juneau: $33.12/hourly

What you will be doing: Join Our Project Control Team and Make an Impact! Are you ready to play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing capital projects? In this dynamic position within the division's Project Control section, you'll be at the heart of financial operations, ensuring accuracy and transparency across major initiatives.

What You'll Do: In this role, you will analyze capital project data and IRIS financial records to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting. You will reconcile funding, expenditures, revenues, and adjusting journal entries (AJEs/CH8s) across accounting systems, projects, and appropriations. You will also maintain project financial data, develop Microsoft Access reports, and partner with project managers to analyze expenditures, support project management, and ensure timely revenue collection.

Who we are looking for: To be successful in this position, the selected applicant will possess the following core competencies:

• Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
• Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
• Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
• Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.
• Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.

Substitutions: Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

An associate's degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
