Job Title: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Ventriculostomy experience - NIH Stroke Scale Certification - Experience with ventilators, arterial lines, and central lines - Proficient in tPA and acute stroke management - Experience with post-craniectomy care Description: This is a Neuro ICU position with a patient ratio of 1:2. Common diagnoses include ventriculostomies and strokes with or without TPA. RNs are required to titrate drips per physician orders. There is a charge nurse and house supervisor available on each shift. Charge nurses may take an assignment if staffing allows. Patient care technicians are present on the unit with a 9:1 ratio. RNs will handle troubleshooting for respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP. Telemonitor techs are available, and RNs are required to read and interpret strips using Phillips monitors. Shifts are 12 hours with a requirement for every other weekend and rotating holidays. Traveling RNs may float to higher-level care units, as well as intermediate and general floors.
