PURPOSE : To support the daily operations of our in-house coffee program by assisting with roasting, packaging, inventory, and customer service. This role helps ensure the quality, consistency, and efficiency of our coffee offerings while contributing to a welcoming and informed coffee experience to our customers.

REPORTS TO: In-House Program Manager

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations

• Roast, stock, and display all items in the coffee department.
• Clearly label all backstock with names and dates, so others can stock coffee as needed. 
• Restock shelves, rotate products, and face merchandise to maintain full, clean, and organized displays
• Receive deliveries, check for accuracy, and safely stock items 
• Operate POS systems accurately and efficiently, including cash handling and troubleshooting basic POS issues

Facilities

• Ensure workstation and roasting room cleanliness
• Follow safe food handling guidelines
• Wash hands routinely, frequently and properly to ensure the safety of our products
• Ensure proper use of all roasting & coffee equipment
• Follow proper documentation and communication procedures for any equipment repairs needed
• Follow safe lifting and ergonomic practices

Brand

• Assist customers with product suggestions, questions, comments and complaints in prompt, friendly, and courteous manner. 
• Assist customers with special orders 
• Pass-on relevant literature for co-op staff to read about coffee, especially items that will be unfamiliar.
• Offer tastes, samples, suggestions for purchase and ways to prepare products. 
• Ensure accurate, up-to-date uniform department signs. 
• Roast for community events as agreed upon with Coffee Lead
• Ensure all signs and shelf tags are attractive, accurate, and near the correct product.

Financial

• Ensure accurate, up-to-date prices for Coffee items POS system and shelf tags
• Receive Coffee items to ensure that accurate invoicing, pricing, and returns routing is executed

Cooperation

• Effectively communicate with other staff members while maintaining a positive attitude and respectful tone. 
• Assist customers in all departments, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary. 
• Cover overflow cashiering.
• Cover cashier breaks as needed.
• Answer & route phone calls. 
• Attend trainings, webinars and conferences as assigned. 
• Perform other tasks as assigned by Manager

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Self-motivated, organized, responsible, flexible
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
• Ability to bend and team lift loads, not to exceed 150 lbs; push and pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs
• Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation
• Ability to maintain timely and consistent attendance
• Ability to travel for work duties as needed
• Willingness to work weekends
• Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
