Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly & Secondary Equipment
Location: Automotive Manufacturing Facility
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
Markdom is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support and improve manufacturing processes associated with assembly operations, secondary equipment, auxiliary tooling, and production stations outside of the injection molding press .
This position will focus on developing, troubleshooting, improving, and launching equipment used after the molding process, including assembly stations, fixtures, poka-yoke devices, testing equipment, material handling systems, and other secondary manufacturing processes.
The ideal candidate has experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment and enjoys working directly on the plant floor with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, improve, and support assembly stations and secondary manufacturing processes .
- Develop and improve fixtures, tooling, gauges, and auxiliary equipment used outside of injection molding presses.
- Troubleshoot production equipment, tooling, fixtures, sensors, and assembly-related issues.
- Support the launch and installation of new manufacturing equipment and assembly cells.
- Develop efficient manufacturing layouts, workstations, and material flow.
- Improve cycle time, ergonomics, quality, scrap, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) .
- Implement error-proofing and poka-yoke solutions to prevent manufacturing defects.
- Work with equipment and tooling suppliers on specifications, builds, installations, and equipment modifications.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process documentation, layouts, and equipment specifications.
- Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for manufacturing and quality concerns.
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, and Process Engineering.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement and cost-reduction opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
- Manufacturing engineering experience in automotive, plastics, assembly, or high-volume manufacturing preferred.
- Experience with assembly equipment, fixtures, tooling, automation, and secondary manufacturing processes .
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and root-cause analysis.
- Familiarity with CAD, equipment layouts, and manufacturing drawings preferred.
- Experience with sensors, pneumatics, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, or automated assembly systems is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively on the manufacturing floor and collaborate across multiple departments.
