The Packaging Experience team owns how Sonos products are protected, revealed, and remembered — from the architecture of the box to the moment the product is lifted out. This role sits at the center of that work, driving structural and three-dimensional design across assigned programs from early concept through mass production.What You'll DoOwn structural and three-dimensional design for assigned packaging programs, from box architecture and opening sequence through trays, inserts, and retention componentsDevelop original concepts through sketching, paper studies, CAD, and physical models, designing the unboxing as an intentional experience with considered pacing, reveal, and gestureProduce dielines, 3D models, and structural documentation that packaging engineering and suppliers can build from directlyCarry assigned programs from concept through production release, maintaining accountability for craft, timing, and design intent throughoutBuild models and prototypes by hand and by machine, validating fit, retention, and assembly with real product; review supplier prototypes and mass production samples against approved intent and drive issues to resolutionAct as the design liaison with packaging engineering, sourcing, suppliers, and converters, translating design intent into clear, buildable guidancePresent structural design work and its rationale to cross-functional teams and leadershipPartner with product industrial design so that packaging form, proportion, and material direction are considered alongside the product itselfContribute to the structural side of the Packaging Experience design system, including standard architectures and components that scale across product categoriesInfluence sustainable packaging efforts through fiber alternatives, material reduction, and recyclabilityWhat You'll NeedBasic QualificationsBachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Packaging, or a related design discipline5+ years of professional experience in industrial design, structural packaging design, or product development, with demonstrated packaging design experience for premium consumer productsStrong portfolio demonstrating three-dimensional design thinking, sketching ability, and resolved physical execution — a portfolio of relevant design work is required for considerationFluency in 3D CAD (NX, Rhino, SolidWorks, or equivalent) and Adobe Illustrator for dielinesExperience designing dielines in structural CAD softwareHands-on model making and prototyping skillsStrong written, verbal, and visual communication skillsQualified applicants must be able to work from the office 3 days per weekPreferred QualificationsExperience taking structural designs into mass production with global suppliersWorking knowledge of fiber-based materials, including corrugated, folding carton, molded pulp, and print finishingFamiliarity with ArtiosCAD or similar structural packaging design softwareRendering and visualization skills in KeyShot or similarProficiency in Figma for design presentationsInterest in sustainability and material innovationComfort working with distributed global teamsInclusion: Research shows that some candidates may not apply for roles if they don't meet all the criteria. We apply geographic pay differentials based on the cost of labor in the market. Employees in high-cost locations may be compensated at the upper end of the range, while those in medium or low cost markets may be compensated at the lower end of the range.
