Summary The Senior Technical Accountant is responsible for researching, analyzing, and documenting complex accounting matters while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and Company accounting policies. This role serves as a technical accounting resource for the organization and supports financial reporting, acquisitions and divestitures, impairment assessments, revenue recognition, lease accounting, internal controls, and other strategic accounting initiatives. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a solid understanding of upstream oil and gas operations. Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions Research, analyze, and document technical accounting issues in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies. Prepare accounting memoranda and position papers related to complex transactions and accounting conclusions. Evaluate accounting implications for acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, asset exchanges, and other strategic transactions. Support monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidations and eliminations. Assist with preparation of external reporting packages for banks and private equity sponsors. Assist with purchase accounting, business combinations, and asset retirement obligation accounting. Lead annual impairment assessments for oil and gas properties and other long-lived assets. Support accounting and disclosure requirements related to oil and gas reserves, depletion, and asset retirement obligations. Analyze and implement new accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Assist with preparation and review of financial statements, footnote disclosures, and supporting schedules. Coordinate with external auditors and provide documentation supporting technical accounting conclusions. Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to complex accounting areas. Review contracts and agreements to determine appropriate accounting treatment, including revenue recognition and lease accounting considerations. Partner with Operations, Land, Engineering, Finance, and Legal teams to evaluate accounting impacts of business activities. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Identify process improvement opportunities and support accounting system implementations and enhancements. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned. Core Competencies Analytical Thinking Attention to Detail Education & Experience (required): Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in the upstream oil and gas industry. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Experience researching and documenting technical accounting matters. Experience preparing accounting analyses, memoranda, and supporting audit documentation. Advanced proficiency with Excel and ERP/accounting systems. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines. Education & Experience (preferred): Master's degree in Accounting or related field. Experience supporting acquisitions, divestitures, and business combinations. Knowledge of successful efforts accounting. Experience with asset retirement obligations (ARO), impairment analyses, and reserve-related accounting matters. Experience supporting SEC reporting and public-company accounting requirements. Other Requirements Must be able to pass a pre-employment background screening Ability to legally work in the US without sponsorship Additional Information Compensation Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $109,200 - $176,300 annually in this location. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amount listed above. Location This position is located Denver, Colorado. Candidates currently residing in locations outside of daily commuting distance will be considered, however, it is the expectation that the selected individual will be available at the work location. No relocation or travel assistance will be provided by the Company for this position. This position operates in an office environment. This entails working inside in an office space wherein employee may be provided a public work station (cubicle) or private office. From time to time, the role will require field visits where exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, dust, electrical charges and other unforeseen exposures may be encountered. Physical Demands In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites, the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individuals might be asked to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or crawl. Individuals might be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. in the performance of this position. Position Type & Working Hours This is a full‑time position. We operate on a 9/80 work schedule.Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on working Fridays. Employee must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and to participate in occasional meetings, events, seminars, conferences, or other activities outside of typical work hours. Employees responsible for project operations are expected to monitor and, in some cases, respond to emails, calls, or texts outside of business hours. Travel Occasional travel to work site locations may be expected. Overnight stays may be required from time to time for training, seminars, field visits, or visits to onsite locations.
