Crane Safety Technician

This role within CBI Construction ("CBI") supports the Operations Teams in maintaining a safe, compliant, and OSHA-adherent jobsite for CBI's construction projects. The Crane Safety Technician works on-site to identify hazards, enforce safety protocols, and support crawler crane safety oversight, with particular attention to the requirements of vertical, multi-story construction. This role reports directly to CBI's Director of Safety.

Duties Include (but are not limited to):

• Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections to identify and correct hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe work practices
• Provide dedicated oversight of crawler crane operations, including pre-lift inspections, rigging checks, signal person coordination, and adherence to crane-specific safety protocols
• Monitor subcontractor and trade partner compliance with CBI safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety plans
• Conduct and document toolbox talks, safety orientations, and jobsite safety training for CBI employees and trade partners
• Investigate, document, and report near-misses, incidents, and accidents; assist in root-cause analysis and corrective action plans
• Maintain accurate safety records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation using Procore
• Monitor and enforce proper use of PPE, fall protection, scaffolding, and other jobsite safety equipment
• Coordinate with the Director of Safety and on-site Superintendents to address safety concerns and stop-work situations when necessary
• Support pre-task planning and job hazard analyses for high-risk activities
• Maintain familiarity with and help enforce local, state, and federal safety regulations applicable to the project

Requirements

CBI's Crane Safety Technicians are highly visible on jobsites and represent CBI's commitment to safety. This role demands integrity, sound judgment, and strong communication skills in addition to the following prerequisites:

• Crane Institute of America certification, or equivalent crane safety credential, preferred
• Completion of OSHA 500 or 510 Safety Course and a rigging certification, preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in crane safety oversight, along with broader jobsite safety experience, preferred
• Proficiency with Procore
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify hazards proactively
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and jobsite communication
• Ability to interact professionally with trade partners, superintendents, and project leadership
• Ability to read and interpret site plans, safety plans, and project documentation
• Must have First Aid/CPR
• Ability to be on-site daily at the Tampa, FL project location for the duration of the assignment
• Ability to work at heights
