Aircraft Avionics Technician (F/A-18 E/F)The Aircraft Avionics Technician will provide organizational level support for F/A-18 E/F electrical and avionics systems. This role focuses on pre- and post-flight activities, inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of complex aircraft avionics, communication, radar, and weapon systems. You will use a wide range of technical documentation, tools, and test equipment to maintain aircraft readiness and ensure safe, reliable operation.ResponsibilitiesPerform organizational level support for F/A-18 E/F aircraft electrical and avionics systems.Conduct and document pre-flight and post-flight activities and inspections in accordance with applicable procedures.Read and interpret wiring schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, and test procedures.Set up and use torque wrenches and common hand tools such as wrenches and safety wire pliers to perform maintenance tasks.Operate specialty tools including crimpers, multi-meters, and pin extractors to diagnose and repair avionics systems.Remove, replace, and function check aircraft components and assemblies to verify proper operation.Perform wire repair, including splicing, soldering, and assembly and disassembly of multi-pin and coaxial connectors.Test, troubleshoot, and properly handle fiber optic conductors used in aircraft systems.Inspect and maintain APG-73 and APG-79 (AESA) radar systems, tactical warfare systems (ALE-47 and ALR-67), and F/A-18 weapon systems including FLIR.Inspect and maintain UHF/VHF communication systems and APX-111 IFF systems.Maintain multipurpose displays, including the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System and video recording systems.Apply a basic understanding of the operation and troubleshooting of a 1553 data bus.Perform software loading and verification for the F/A-18 mission computer and other software-controlled systems.Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems across all aircraft avionics systems aboard the F/A-18 E/F.Provide technical advice, training, and troubleshooting assistance to organizational level technicians when required.Use Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), Wire Illuminator, NAMP 4790, and applicable NAVAIR technical publications to perform maintenance and documentation.Generate clear written reports for management to support contractual obligations and maintenance activities.Document maintenance and repair actions, equipment status tags, logs, and parts requests accurately and in a timely manner.Comply with all rules and regulations concerning health and safety, tool control, foreign object damage (FOD) control, and required training and certifications.Perform assigned duties while wearing required safety equipment and adhering to all safety procedures.Work flexible schedules as needed to support customer maintenance requirements, including day and night shifts.Additional Skills & QualificationsU.S. Navy rating experience as AT or AE is highly relevant to the role.Strong preference for candidates who have supported U.S. Navy F-18 squadrons on deployment.Experience providing technical advice, training, and troubleshooting assistance to other technicians.Experience working within Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs is beneficial.Comfort working with structured maintenance documentation and generating reports for leadership.Ability to collaborate effectively with other maintenance and operations personnel in a high-tempo environment.Why Work Here?This opportunity offers the chance to work on a long-term, multi-year program supporting advanced tactical aircraft systems in partnership with the U.S. Navy. The environment is a professional military aviation maintenance setting that emphasizes safety, tool control, and FOD prevention. You will work with advanced avionics, radar, communication, weapon systems, fiber optics, and data bus technologies, using specialized tools, test equipment, and electronic technical manuals. Schedules are flexible to meet maintenance demands, with roles assigned to first shift and dedicated night shift. Required safety equipment must be worn as directed, and all work follows established health, safety, and certification standards.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of New Orleans, LA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
