A rewarding opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support elementary-aged students with significant cognitive disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities and autism who may display challenging behaviors. This contract position, beginning as soon as possible and extending through June 4, 2027, focuses on delivering specialized instruction and fostering inclusivity within the classroom.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Maryland Special Education Certification (unconditional; conditional certifications are not accepted)
- Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders
- Strong understanding of behavior management strategies and individualized instructional planning
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills for working with families, colleagues, and related service providers
- Ability to pass the security screening required for Fort Meade access
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs
- Adapt curriculum material to facilitate learning and achieve IEP goals
- Provide direct instruction, organize small-group work, and utilize evidence-based interventions
- Monitor student progress and maintain detailed records and data collection
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and outside agencies to create a supportive, inclusive environment
- Participate in IEP meetings, team conferences, and ongoing professional development
This full-time role consists of a 35-hour work week and offers a chance to make a significant impact in the lives of elementary students in a collaborative and supportive school community. You’ll engage in meaningful work while helping students build essential academic and life skills.
