Chief Engineer

Chief Engineer – JLL Location: On-site, McLean, VA Estimated compensation: $101,600.00 – $122,700.00 USD per year. This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. We need a Chief Engineer to lead the operational excellence of critical building systems and protect client asset value. The role combines strategic maintenance leadership with hands‑on engineering expertise, managing teams that keep facilities running safely and efficiently. Responsibilities Lead complex mechanical and electrical systems operations, including refrigeration, HVAC, boilers, pumps, valves, and associated equipment. Monitor and maintain equipment performance, implement preventive maintenance schedules, and oversee HVAC repair programs. Manage building infrastructure and contractor coordination, ensuring adequate inventory, quality standards, and vendor performance. Champion safety and regulatory compliance, develop safety training programs, and maintain full compliance with all applicable laws and guidelines. Build and develop high‑performing engineering teams by hiring, training, mentoring, and fostering professional standards. Drive operational efficiency and reliability through continuous evaluation of maintenance methodologies and process improvements. Required Qualifications Associate Degree in engineering or equivalent demonstrated work experience in facility management. 7+ years of progressive facility‑related experience, including leadership and supervisory responsibilities. Proven managerial experience leading technical teams, with direct reports and cross‑functional contractor coordination. Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, fluid handling, filtration systems, and mechanical/electrical building operations. Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment). Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent state/local engineering certification. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills to interact professionally with clients, management, and technical staff. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). Advanced HVAC, boiler, or building automation certifications. Experience with energy management, sustainability, or building efficiency projects. Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and IoT monitoring technologies. Track record of budget management, cost control, and vendor contract negotiation. Background in emergency response, disaster recovery, or business continuity management.
