Occupational Therapist
Avera Health
Avera Health is seeking a compassionate, patient-centered Occupational Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our regional health system. Based in our dynamic Upper Midwest network, this role is integral to delivering high-quality, evidence-based rehabilitative care across our hospitals, clinics, and care facilities. As an Occupational Therapist at Avera Health, you will conduct comprehensive evaluations, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide therapeutic interventions designed to help patients achieve maximum independence and improved quality of life in their daily activities.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, physical and speech therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, holistic care. You will assess functional abilities, cognitive and perceptual skills, and environmental factors, then implement tailored interventions such as therapeutic exercises, ADL (activities of daily living) training, splinting, adaptive equipment recommendations, and patient and family education. You will document all care in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner, adhering to regulatory, payer, and organizational standards.
Avera Health emphasizes compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, and you will be expected to provide care with respect, dignity, and cultural sensitivity to patients across the lifespan. You will communicate clearly with patients and their families, set realistic functional goals, and engage them as active partners in the rehabilitation process. You will also participate in discharge planning, home safety recommendations, and ongoing care coordination to support safe transitions across care settings.
This position offers the opportunity to grow professionally within a supportive healthcare network. You will have access to continuing education, clinical mentorship, and opportunities to contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and best-practice implementation. Depending on location and service line needs, you may provide services in inpatient, outpatient, acute care, subacute, home health, or long-term care environments, with a focus on delivering excellent, evidence-based occupational therapy.
The ideal candidate brings strong clinical reasoning, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to teamwork and lifelong learning. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment, managing a varied caseload, and adapting treatment approaches to meet individual patient needs while following all safety, infection-control, and ethical standards. By joining Avera Health, you will be part of a collaborative, mission-driven organization dedicated to improving patient outcomes and serving communities with integrity and compassion.
