Dispensary Technician/Dental Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Dispensary Clerk/Dental Assistant to support the Department of Restorative in maintaining efficient clinical operations while ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and infection control. This position plays a critical role in supporting providers, postgraduate students, and patients within a fast-paced academic dental environment.

The ideal candidate will assist with dispensary management, instrument sterilization, inventory control, patient support, and chairside assistance as needed. This individual will contribute to a positive patient experience while helping ensure the smooth daily operation of the clinic through strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality care.

Location: Newark, NJ
Position type: 3-6 month temp/contract role

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

Pay Rate: $ 23.00/hour


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist postgraduate students as needed by seating patients, adjusting chairs, draping patients with protective covers, and performing other related patient-care functions.
• Support the department with the delivery of patient information, including patient treatment contracts and other required documentation.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization by delivering instruments for processing, retrieving sterilized instruments, stocking sterilized supplies, preparing instruments in treatment areas, and positioning instruments for provider access.
• Provide materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments as requested by providers.
• Expose and scan radiographs using intraoral digital sensors.
• Maintain dental supply inventory within the clinic by monitoring stock levels, anticipating supply needs, and submitting requests according to departmental protocols.
• Assist providers in educating patients regarding oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-operative care instructions.
• Ensure proper operation and handling of dental equipment and instruments to prevent damage and report repair or maintenance needs as appropriate.
• Assist with implant procedures by preparing surgical rooms before and after procedures.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to RSDM infection control policies and departmental protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy regulations.

Qualifications

• Dental Assistant experience in a clinical setting preferred.
• Experience assisting with chairside procedures and sterilization processes.
• Knowledge of dental instruments, supplies, and infection control procedures.
• Ability to expose and scan radiographs using digital imaging equipment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and patient service skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented academic and clinical environment.
