Project Team Leader Mechanical

Responsibilities Under general supervision, responsible for the overall execution and performance of mechanical retrofit projects. Follow consistent and repeatable project‑management procedures and processes, achieving financial results on assigned projects. Provide project coordination for daily activities of mechanics and subcontractors, secure new work and change orders from the existing customer base, and provide mechanical project estimating and reviews. Act as a technical resource for sales, assist sales in project development efforts, and perform pre‑bid reviews. Provide overall project safety program compliance and ensure all team members and subcontractors adhere to safety standards. Plan, execute, and control assigned projects, overseeing the mechanical retrofit process to ensure it follows Johnson Controls standard practices. Facilitate escalation of product‑related problems and ensure seamless transition to the appropriate truck‑based team. Recruit, hire, and supervise resources to staff the project team and interface with the truck‑based team(s) to control manpower and maintain proper staffing levels. Review and interpret contract terms and conditions, coordinate drawing layouts/detailing for proper job installation, and manage material procurement, warehousing, and logistics processes. Analyze financial reporting systems and project schedules to proactively address potential problems, manage risk, and establish project recovery plans. Provide ongoing cost and estimate analysis reporting, manage allocation of costs to financial reporting systems, and use Johnson Controls standard tracking and reporting tools to communicate project progress and financial status to management. Investigate opportunities for improvements in the project scope that will result in value‑added change orders and prepare proposals for customer acceptance. Maintain asset management responsibilities, including collections, cost control, progress billings, and payables, while ensuring compliance with specifications, local codes, and installation techniques. Develop and maintain viable long‑term relationships with customers and subcontractors, attending job progress meetings, and ensuring subcontractors understand project expectations. Coordinate the performance of owner training requirements and ensure transition to the appropriate Johnson Controls truck‑based team. Ensure high‑quality written communications and document controls in compliance with contract requirements and Johnson Controls standards. Qualifications Six or more years of comprehensive, technical and operational knowledge of the service business, particularly related to smaller fast‑track retrofit, remodel, and tenant improvement projects. Lead assigned mechanics on a portfolio of projects typically up to $2M in revenue. Two to four years of engineering or trade school training such as an engineering degree or equivalent (preferred). Installation and service experience related to HVAC mechanical systems and equipment (desired). Proven verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a non‑technical audience. Proficient in project‑management software and financial accounting systems. Strong computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, and basic Windows environment. Travel required; projects may exist outside the assigned geography.
