Robert Half is partnering with an established manufacturing organization in the Alabaster area to identify a Plant Controller. This is a hands on plant accounting position with significant interaction with operations and plant leadership.

The ideal candidate will have strong manufacturing cost accounting experience and enjoy getting beyond the numbers to understand how the operation actually works. This person will regularly spend time on the shop floor, partner with production leadership, and use financial and operational data to help improve plant performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Own key aspects of plant financial reporting and month end close
• Maintain and analyze standard costs for manufactured products
• Review production activity and manufacturing variances
• Manage inventory accounting, reconciliations, and controls
• Work extensively with BOMs, routes, product costs, and sales margins
• Analyze labor, overhead, material, and other manufacturing variances
• Reconcile inventory and fixed asset accounts
• Develop and monitor plant KPIs and operating metrics
• Monitor departmental and plant spending
• Prepare capital requests and ROI analysis
• Support internal and external audits
• Partner closely with plant and production leadership
• Spend time on the shop floor understanding processes and identifying opportunities to improve performance
• Assist with accounting policies, procedures, and process improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience
• Strong manufacturing cost accounting experience
• Experience with standard costing and manufacturing variance analysis
• Strong inventory accounting knowledge
• Solid understanding of financial statements, journal entries, and GAAP
• Advanced Excel skills
• Ability to communicate financial information effectively to operational leaders
• Comfortable working in a hands on plant environment
