PHARMACY TECHNICIAN – OUTBOUND REFILL AUTHORIZATION

Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour
Work Arrangement: Remote
Training Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST for the first 7 weeks

Regular Schedule: M-F 9a-5:30 PM
Experience Requirement: Minimum 1 year of Pharmacy Technician experience
Certification/Licensure: Not required; preferred
Internet Requirement: Hardwired internet required; Wi-Fi only is not acceptable

JOB OVERVIEW

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for contacting physician offices to obtain verbal authorization for prescription refill renewals when previous outreach attempts have not received a response. This position supports continuity of patient care by ensuring refill requests are addressed accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Place outbound calls to physician offices and healthcare professionals regarding prescription refill renewals.
• Obtain and accurately document verbal authorization and other relevant case information.
• Follow established processes for refill requests, approvals, denials, and provider outreach.
• Navigate multiple computer systems simultaneously while documenting call activity accurately.
• Maintain professionalism and excellent phone etiquette during all provider interactions.
• Meet established productivity and call-volume expectations.
• Support team goals related to turnaround times and completion of refill authorizations.
• Maintain compliance with quality, confidentiality, attendance, and operational standards.
• Work independently while contributing effectively to overall team objectives.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 1 year of Pharmacy Technician experience.
• Minimum 1 year of high-volume customer service or call center experience.
• Strong verbal communication and professional phone etiquette.
• Ability to communicate confidently with physician office staff and healthcare professionals.
• Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and medication processes.
• Understanding of prescription refill processes and pharmacy workflows.
• Ability to accurately document call activity, approvals, denials, and case information.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to navigate multiple systems simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining quality, focus, and productivity.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to set up and troubleshoot a home computer, VPN, and required applications.
• Comfortable working in a structured, metric-driven environment.

CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE

• Pharmacy Technician certification or licensure is not required.
• Pharmacy Technician certification or licensure is preferred but not mandatory.

REMOTE WORK REQUIREMENTS

• Must have hardwired internet connectivity; Wi-Fi-only connections are not acceptable.
• Candidate must provide an internet speed test during submission.
• Strong basic computer skills are required.
• Must be comfortable working on a computer throughout the workday.
• Smartphone required to access and utilize the PING application.
• Must have a private workspace.
• Workspace must be located in a room with a lock.
• Workspace must be free from outside noise and distractions.
• Children or other caretaking responsibilities must be managed outside of scheduled work hours.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

• Average daily call volume is approximately 60–100 calls per day.
• Approximately 8 calls per hour are expected, although volume may fluctuate based on business needs.
• Calls are primarily inbound, with outbound activity as needed.
• Meet established productivity goals and turnaround-time expectations.
• Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all interactions.
• Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy during provider office interactions.
• Maintain quality, compliance, and attendance standards.
• Maintain reliable attendance throughout the mandatory 7-week training period.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Primarily sedentary work performed in a remote call-center environment.
• Extensive telephone and computer use throughout the workday.
• High-volume healthcare call environment requiring sustained focus and attention to detail.
• Position requires the ability to work independently in a private, distraction-free home workspace.

TRAINING

Training is required for the first 7 weeks of the assignment.

Training Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST

Candidates must be able to maintain reliable attendance throughout the entire training period.
