Job Description

This full-time janitorial worker role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and presentable aerospace facility. You will perform a wide range of custodial and housekeeping tasks, including floor care, restroom sanitation, and general cleaning of offices and public areas, while following established standards, instructions, and procedures under the supervision of a custodial leader.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, and wash floors and other interior building surfaces to maintain a clean and safe environment.

• Operate light and heavy commercial floor equipment, including buffers and shampoo machines with attachments, in accordance with safety and operating procedures.

• Vacuum rugs in offices and public areas, perform daily spot cleaning, and shampoo rugs when directed.

• Clean and dust furniture, exhibit cases, pictures, chairs, door trim, light fixtures, and all other horizontal surfaces, including periodic high dusting.

• Wash windowsills and clean glass in interior doors, partitions, and specified windows to ensure clear and streak-free surfaces.

• Wash glass and trim at interior and exterior entrance doors and wash or spot clean interior walls as appropriate on a daily basis.

• Clean bathrooms thoroughly and restock paper and soap supplies daily, following standard bathroom procedures.

• Perform bathroom tasks such as damp wiping glass surfaces, emptying waste baskets, servicing soap and toilet paper dispensers, dusting sills, cleaning tile walls, shelves, and stall partitions, and sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors.

• Monitor for possible defects or issues such as clogged urinals and lights that are out, and promptly report them to supervisors.

• Collect building trash daily, place it in approved containers, and move it to the designated collection area for removal.

• Replace liners in waste baskets and trash containers according to specifications.

• Sweep or shovel snow from steps and walkways at building entrances and connecting walkways or sidewalks as directed to maintain safe access.

• Perform periodic work such as high dusting and polishing leather and wood surfaces, as well as washing walls when scheduled.

• Follow established standards, instructions, and procedures for all custodial tasks and comply with safety and cleanliness guidelines.

• Carry out any other custodial or cleaning duties as assigned to support overall facility cleanliness and operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing housekeeping, custodial, janitorial, or environmental services duties in a commercial or institutional setting.

• Proficiency in general cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.

• Ability to operate light and heavy commercial floor equipment such as buffers and shampoo machines, including attachments.

• Capability to clean and maintain restrooms, including sanitizing fixtures, restocking supplies, and following standard bathroom procedures.

• Attention to detail in cleaning glass, windows, doors, furniture, and other surfaces to maintain a neat and professional appearance.

• Ability to follow established standards, instructions, and procedures consistently.

• Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting, bending, reaching, standing for extended periods, and shoveling snow when required.

• Reliability and punctuality to support full-time schedules and assigned shifts.

• Willingness to work under supervision and communicate issues such as maintenance defects or safety concerns to supervisors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in housekeeping, custodial, janitorial, or environmental services roles.

• Familiarity with commercial cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment and their safe use.

• Comfort working independently while following established custodial procedures.

• Ability to adapt to changing tasks and perform periodic deep-cleaning duties such as high dusting and wall washing.

Work Environment

This is a full-time custodial role based at a north-side facility. Primary hours referenced include a second shift from approximately 7pm - 2pm M-F with openness to some flexibility as long as the schedule remains later in the day. Work takes place indoors in offices, public areas, restrooms, and entranceways, with occasional outdoor tasks such as sweeping or shoveling snow from steps and walkways. You will regularly use commercial cleaning equipment, including floor buffers, shampoo machines, vacuums, and standard custodial tools and supplies. The environment requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and handling cleaning materials. Dress expectations typically include practical, comfortable clothing suitable for custodial work, along with appropriate footwear and any required protective gear in line with safety guidelines.

This is a Contract position based out of Huntsville, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
