Occupational Therapy - Occupational Therapist

OT Location: Waimea, Hawaii Schedule: 8:00AM - 5:00PM x 5 Term: 13-week assignment with the potential for extension Pay Rate: $65 - $70/hr

Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency, is hiring an OT for a temporary assignment in Waimea, Hawaii. These positions are 13-week contracts with the ability to extend.

Responsibilities for an OT:

Observe, assess, evaluate, and re-evaluate level of patient function, collecting objective measurements and using outcome measures in all applicable areas of ADL, ROM, strength, and function based on individual diagnosis and medical conditions

Provide direct patient treatment upon development and implementation of a written occupational therapy plan of care under physician referral, using appropriate treatment to prevent deterioration, develop skills, and restore function

Independently plan, organize, initiate, and conduct occupational therapy treatment including activities of daily living, sensory integrative functioning, orthotics and self-help device design/fabrication/fitting, psychosocial functioning, and upper extremity motor functioning

Act as activities consultant for LTC and hospital, providing input to the activities coordinator and Recreation Aide regarding planning, organizing, initiating, and conducting activity programs for individuals and groups of patients/residents

Instruct patients, residents, and staff on specific occupational therapy recommendations; provide advisory and consultative services to patients, residents, activities programs, other therapists, and diagnostic team members

Plan and organize workload while remaining flexible to the acute needs of patients and departments

Document all services rendered, including health teaching

Communicate with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team and community agencies involved in the program

Coordinate discharge follow-up with community agencies as needed

Interact with patients to reduce anxiety, inform them of what to expect, and ensure continuity of care; apply knowledge of different cultures to assess and provide culturally specific treatment and care

Apply principles of pain management to assess, treat, and educate patients and families to ensure comfort and minimize pain

Apply principles of growth and development to assess and provide age-specific treatment and care

Participate in and direct patient care delivery, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists as required, and adjust processes to ensure optimal patient care

Provide input in formulating patient care policies and procedures; work with medical staff to coordinate medical and departmental management of patient care

Ensure all patient care activities meet quality standards; organize and ensure continuity of care based on current knowledge; transcribe and execute physician orders

May assume the role of patient advocate in accordance with the Patient Bill of Rights

Demonstrate clinical expertise in area of specialty

Assist in planning, organizing, and coordinating an occupational therapy program; provide administrative leadership to the department

Develop and implement strategies for resource allocation to achieve objectives; develop long- and short-range plans in compliance with applicable regulatory and governing authorities

Plan departmental in-services to enhance the quality of patient care

Investigate and evaluate causes of complaints and problems from patients, visitors, and personnel; solve minor problems and report major or recurrent issues

Participate in developing, justifying, and maintaining the annual operational and capital budget; monitor variances against budget and prepare reports as needed

Evaluate equipment effectiveness and reliability; set standards for facilities and equipment and monitor utilization of equipment and supplies

Collaborate to ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors; promote open communication within and across departments

Participate in activities related to The Joint Commission (TJC), Safety, Performance Improvement, and Infection Control

Report unsafe equipment and ensure follow-up; verify all necessary equipment is available and in working order; report incidents and unusual occurrences per department policies

Attend hospital-wide meetings and actively participate on committees as required or directed

Participate in emergency procedure drills, fire drills, evacuation procedures, and internal/external disaster plans

Make recommendations regarding new or existing operational practices, policies, and procedures; develop departmental policies and standards

Actively engage with the community to promote services and enhance relationships

Maintain departmental records and reports; collect statistical data as directed

Instruct other personnel in preparing and conducting activities and programs for patients in the areas of occupational therapy

Conduct in-service training for hospital staff; orient staff to the goals and purposes of occupational therapy; advise and consult with staff regarding patient needs

Participate in staff, agency, and patient-care meetings to coordinate team efforts in treatment approach and rehabilitation goals; communicate OT observations and evaluations to the interdisciplinary team

Supervise the use, maintenance, and care of tools and equipment used in the Occupational Therapy department

Transport patients in a hospital van when necessary

Foster and maintain effective communication, exemplifying exceptional customer service, promoting teamwork, and supporting positive interactions with patients, visitors, providers, staff, and the community

Provide assistance during emergencies, participate in disaster drills, and engage in committee meetings, training sessions, and problem-solving processes

Assume responsibility for personal continuing education, competency, and professional development; attend meetings, workshops, and seminars to enrich knowledge and clinical skills

Attend and complete mandatory in-services and certification renewals on time, including patient rights, crisis prevention, annual health and safety, and BLS

Provide educational efforts to patients, their families, and other members of the department

Interpret philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for personnel, patients, and the public; set and track short- and long-term department goals

Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and uphold the highest standards of confidentiality for all patient and employee information

Follow and uphold policies and procedures of The Joint Commission (TJC) as well as federal, state, and other regulatory agencies

Maintain compliance with all infection control and employee health requirements

Actively participate in applicant interviews and present a positive image to support recruitment efforts

Perform other duties as assigned

Obtain Hawaii Occupational Therapy license prior to start
