Airport Lounge Cook

The cook will prepare food according to recipes and food/health safety regulations for customer consumption in The Club lounge located inside the San Francisco International Airport. They will split their time between preparing and cooking food in the back-of-house kitchen and cooking and presenting food to guests on the front finishing line and action station.

Cook basic skills include:

• Food handling follows all food safety policies and procedures.
• Hospitality focus focus on guest satisfaction and providing memorable experiences. Generous, friendly, and warm-spirited.
• Guest experience maintains a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor, ensuring the highest level of guest experience in an elevated environment while accurately answering inquiries from guests.
• Active listening giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
• Reading comprehension understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
• Speaking talking to others to convey information effectively.
• Writing communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the audience's needs.
• Conflict resolution de-escalating situations in a professional and courteous manner.
• Problem solving developing solutions to remove obstacles to problems that may arise.

Cook primary job duties include:

• Setting up and breaking down workstations.
• Maintaining a clean and sanitary workstation.
• Cooking and preparing food according to production guidelines and recipes.
• Performing work on the front line, cooking for guests in the action station.
• Knowledge of food products, identification, and acceptable levels of food quality.
• Ensuring food is stored at the appropriate temperature for the appropriate length of time and following all food safety standards.
• Completing daily temperature logs.
• Knowing methods of food preparation, cooking times, and portion sizes to ensure food is prepared in the prescribed manner.
• Evaluating food quality and preparedness by tasting.
• Cutting, trimming, boning, and carving meats and poultry for cooking.
• Responsible for using correct portions when cutting, preparing, and serving items.
• Cleaning and sanitizing work areas, equipment, and utensils.
• Safely operating all kitchen equipment.
• Daily use of appropriate PPE for the task assigned.
• Reporting all injuries immediately to your manager/supervisor.
• Understanding the proper use and storage of chemicals used in the location. Being familiar with the chemical MSDS book and its contents.
• Assisting with stocking the buffet and cleaning as necessary.
• Assisting with the receiving of deliveries, unloading to designated areas following the FIFO method.
• Assisting with inventory counts.
• Assisting with the removal of trash throughout the lounge, taking it to designated disposal areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

Cook minimum acceptable qualifications include:

• Minimum one year of experience in the food service industry as a cook.
• Knowledge of and ability to follow all food handling safety and hygiene requirements.
• Must pass and obtain all required certifications/licenses, including but not limited to ServSafe Food Handler certification.
• Demonstrates the ability to interact with guests and coworkers in a friendly and enthusiastic manner.
• Ability to effectively and pleasantly present information in one-on-one and group settings to guests and other team members of the company.
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure and awareness of surroundings and cultural differences.
• Ability to maintain a presentable and polished appearance in keeping with service standards in a best-in-class environment.
• Physical ability and stamina to stand for long hours.
• Availability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Multi-tasking abilities.
• Good oral communication skills.
• Ability to handle the stress of a fast-paced work shift up to ten (10) hours.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to walk, bend, twist, and stand to perform normal job functions.
• Report on work on a regular and timely basis.
• Must be able to pass and obtain a security background check and clearance to work in an airport environment.
