Contingent Support Chaplain - Spiritual Care

Overview Schedule: Contingent, as needed (non-benefits eligible). Job Description Summary: Provides emotional and spiritual support to patients, family members, and hospital staff. Serves on a contingent, as‑needed basis. Essential Functions Provides direct pastoral care and counseling to patients, families, and staff. Provides emotional and spiritual support in times of crisis. Uses dynamics of interpersonal relationships and appropriate religious resources to help ease anxiety and help persons integrate their hospital experience with their view of life. Provides occasional evening and weekend hours. Provides overnight, holiday, and weekend on‑needed basis. Provides informal and formal consultation to hospital staff in developing emotional and spiritual care plans for patients and their families. Maintains consultative relationships with the community; consults with clergy, congregations, and religious bodies regarding spiritual care of patients and families. Education Requirements Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from an accredited seminary or graduate school, or equivalent ministry experience (preferred). Completion of one unit of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education (required). Completion of four units of ACPE Clinical Pastoral Education (preferred). Certifications Ordination, or faith group equivalent, and endorsement by an appropriate ecclesiastical or equivalent organization, or ability to obtain within one year of hire (preferred). Board certified or board certified‑eligible in the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, National Association of Jewish Chaplains (preferred). Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to respond appropriately to situations with complex emotional and relational dynamics. Experience Pastoral care experience in a diverse setting (required). Physical Requirements Occasionally: Blood and/or bodily fluids; communicable diseases and/or pathogens; lifting/carrying 0‑10 lbs; loud noises; pushing/pulling 0‑25 lbs; working outdoors. Frequently: Computer skills; decision making; flexing/extending of neck; hand use—grasping, gripping, turning; interpreting data; problem solving; repetitive hand/arm use; sitting. Continuously: Audible speech; hearing acuity; peripheral vision; seeing far/near; standing; walking. Additional Physical Requirements performed but not listed above: Can be an emotionally demanding environment; able to perform effectively during stressful situations; requires focus and attention to detail while multitasking.
