Description: Under supervision and direction of a mentor or preceptor, this entry-level position works to achieve initial competencies required to deliver specialized radiologic technology services to patient populations. The role aids medical staff in the diagnosis, care, treatment, and surveillance of various conditions and diseases. Utilizing entry-level knowledge and skills, the technologist provides safe, high-quality, and efficient patient-centric care and support services under routine or emergent conditions. This may occur in various care settings including acute inpatient facilities and outpatient clinics. The technologist prepares patients for procedures and correlates clinical history with procedures ordered by physicians. Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team are essential to achieve desired clinical outcomes and service expectations. Utilizing a variety of highly specialized radiologic equipment and techniques, the technologist performs a range of diagnostic procedures in accordance with established guidelines. Post-procedure, they conduct reviews to confirm that all required elements are completed and that technical quality meets established protocols. Images and data are transferred to appropriate systems, and technical data/findings are entered and prepared for reporting by physicians. The technologist performs operator-level quality control checks, cleaning, and user maintenance per regulatory guidelines. Participation in continuing education, professional development, and research activities is essential to maintain competencies and promote improvements in care. Candidates must be sensitive to patients' physical and psychological needs and maintain accurate records. The ability to work as part of a team, follow instructions, and communicate effectively with staff, patients, and families is necessary. A high level of initiative, effort, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently is expected. Attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential. Knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, as well as radiologic technologies, is required. The ability to apply core-level specialty theory, practices, and techniques is needed to perform and analyze study data or procedure documentation with general supervision.
